At Hearthstone, we are committed to rehabbing and restarting off-the-track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) slowly and intentionally before finding them their next partner. (Or keeping them;))
Organized by Taylor Tricarico, we are a collective of passionate and experienced individuals who come together to put the horse first, ensuring each animal that goes through our program has the foundation for their next career, whether big or small.
Our methodology is based in natural horsemanship techniques and the idea that if you listen, the horse will tell you what it needs. We take our time, and it shows!
We also have the occasional Pony or QH for sale or lease.
Keep Scrolling to see available horses.
WAFFLE was originally brought on as assistant trainer to our Western-leaning horses, but it quickly became clear that his talents lie in (re)designing courses. He uses his skills to move every cone, pole, standard, barrel, flag or obstacle into its optimal position for training sessions.
CASHEW never misses an opportunity to be in the middle of the action, making him the perfect Head of Security. He is right there in the round pen and the riding paddock anytime his best buds are put to work. You know, for safety.
DUMPLING'S enthusiasm for life on the farm is unmatched. He brings a special energy (and volume) to his role as barn manager. He specializes in making sure every last piece of grain is 'cleaned up' and that fans, benches and mounting blocks are sturdy enough to stand up to regular use.

This horse is so smart and pretty! He's going to be someone's dream horse. - Danica
My jaw hit the ground when this one walked off trailer! And while his breeding and dashing good looks might pull you in, it’s Lavery’s sweet-as-pie demeanor and laid-back attitude that will keep you coming back for more!
Lavery retired from racing in August 2023. He was promptly gelded and given a full six months to let down. Since then, he’s been rehabbing some tweaks to his conformation and movement that were result of his extended racetrack life. Under the stewardship of former TB trainer Mike Bell, he was introduced to groundwork slowly and correctly paying close attention to building up his top-line, back-end and creating balance . He’s responded beautifully and filled out handsomely.
His short time under saddle has been blissfully uneventful and he’s demonstrated that he has a quiet mind, is not reactive and is a willing partner. Thanks to the ground work exercises he's well balanced and in good shape. His flat work is predictable and he's responsive to aids. He's even already framing up beautifully! This guy will SHINE at RRP.
Outside of the ring, we've watched his confidence grow, even taking to the trails with zero concern or fuss. He will lead or follow and walk over any surface and through water. This is a gooood dude!
He is a pleasure to have around. Lavery can be turned out with geldings or mares, is low on the totem pole and has perfect ground manners. At this time, he is recommended for low level homes only. We just don't think he has the personality for working up the levels. He wears front shoes.
Use whatever term me like: in your pocket, puppy dog, people horse; they all apply to this big love. His perfect match would be someone looking for a best friend to hit the trails with one day and maybe compete in local classes the next. He aims to please and is ready to be spoiled rotten. He’s earned it!
$5,500 with special consideration to the best home. Local Trials available.

Maeve is a sweetheart of a mare with beautiful movement and a personality that will keep you entertained. (Check out her videos below!)
This big girl was started in Western Pleasure but has done a little bit of everything over the last 3 years, but Maeve has told us that she enjoys the Western Disciplines where she can have a low head carriage and show off her early training. She still qualifies for the green classes. She has three beautiful balance gaits, and is just the prettiest thing you will ever see! Photos do NOT do her justice. Everyone that meets her falls in love instantly.
Above all Maeve is a trail horse deluxe! She LOVES her time in the woods, open fields, the creek, going over obstacle and logs, you name it! If she is on the trail, she is a happy girl. Low spook and NO bolt, but not a deadhead. She is a great partner.
She loads, stalls, leads, tacks, etc. perfectly. Can be turned out with mares or geldings. Wears front shoes.
Maeve is well bred and very well built. She is a five figure horse, but has mild kissing spine so her price has been adjusted accordingly. She was given 6 moths off after her diagnoses and then brought back to work slowly and correctly. Her symptoms have been controlled without surgery or injections and she is thriving. Other than front bar shoes and consistent riding, she requires zero maintenance.
This is a great opportunity to own a SUPER nice horse for a fraction of her original value.
Price TBD. Best home is a must!

I didn't know a horse could be this versatile and eager to please! - Taylor
The brain on this horse! I genuinely can’t emphasize enough how smart and quiet this guy is under saddle. The kind of mind everyone is looking for! The results of his spectacular demeanor are:
Alfie is set up to be a true all-arounder. There were multiple weeks in his re-training where he’d do a hunter show one day, trail ride the next, school obstacles a few days later, give lessons to a beginner and pen cows to round out the week. He showed up with the same willingness every time.
He is athletic, cowy and has a cute jump on him. He is a responsive guy, who is just the right amount of forward, holds his gaits and moves beautifully of the leg. Happy to ride in Western tack or English, with a bit or without. He has the foundation and the mind to excel at just about any second career! He is kind and calm, but not the meet you at the gate, snuggle-bug type. Alfie shows his love by keeping his rider safe and trying his very hardest! My five-year-old daughter had her first ever independent trot on this guy!
Did I mention he’s BAREFOOT and requires zero maintenance? He does crib, but it’s controlled with a collar that will go with him. I mean he has to have at least one flaw, right!?
Check out his many Videos.
Aflie is on unrestricted turn-out until December 1st as a small suspensory injury heals. (Sadly he will not be going to RRP afterall) He will go back into work on November 1st and hit the local show circuit in the spring.

Safe. Sound. Sweet. Willing. Did I say Sweet!?
"Frida" is an in your pocket OTTB who wants nothing more than to please her people. She is the perfect combination of brains and beauty. She rides western or English and does everything a good broke horse should do, and then some. She loves the trails, but is also really taking to jumping and ranch riding. Three balanced gaits with lead changes. Obstacles are also her jam and she competed in the 2023 RRP thoroughbred makeover in competitive trail. Everyone who meets her LOVES her and I trust her with my five-year-old daughter. Whomever ends up with this girl in their barn will be very, very lucky.
Frida has had two full years of thoughtful post track training. She is the barn favorite everywhere she goes.

This horse made me like horses! - Jim (non-horsey husband)
There are loving horses and then there is Pi. His calm steady affection and laid back attitude are the things dreams are made of. His stellar demeanor translates to his under-saddle work too. He is quiet, steady, willing and a happy partner, whatever the occasion. Except jumping. Jumping is scary.
His flat work is enviable and his big body and long stride make you feel like you are floating at the canter. Pi moves off the leg beautifully and is more whoa than go. He has a reliable lead change and the foundation for lower-level dressage. He rides Engish or Western. In a bit or bit-less. he's been exposed to cattle and given lessons to kids as young as five. He's just a solid, solid dude! Pi still qualifies for the green classes and with just a little work will sweep W/T/C classes.
Gets along with everyone in the paddock. Low-man on the totem pole. Barefoot. Stays fat on air.

Do you like to be entertained? Enjoy a little sass combined with the smoothest trot around? Want to trail ride and win some ribbons at the local shows? Interested in being followed around by a 1000 lb puppy dog!?
This absolutely love of a boy is a huge pet and ex-track pony. He is a fun ride with one quirk at the canter that I will discuss with interested parties. He’s not a kids horse (yet) and needs a confident rider and strong leader who can ride him 3-4 times a week to reach his full potential. He will pay you back with alllll the Love. And could he be any cuter!!??

We are just getting to know this guy but so far he can do no wrong. He is so quiet and smart, not to mention affectionate and kind. He has just the brain and demeanor we look for!
The dear is rehabbing a bowed tendon and is the BEST patient. He is sound but is still on small-lot turnout for a few more weeks before we kick him out into the bigger pasture for the winter. Come Spring we get to put him under tack and start having fun!
